Students against corruption
STUDENTS AGAINST CORRUPTION
Corruption is one of the turpitudes hampering the growth of our country. Instances of corruption can be traced back to the year of India’s independence. After witnessing the reprehensible acts of the Indian National Congress (INC), people began to say that the British government was much better.
At some point or the other we have been forced to bribe the government officials to get our work done- from birth certificate to retirement, buying land to selling it, water supply to sewage, and so on. Mahatma Gandhi empowered women and urged them to fight for India’s independence. Now it is Anna Hazare who has inspired the youth to join him in his campaign to fight for India’s 2nd independence- from corruption. The lives of future generations are in no way safe in the hands of these corrupt bureaucrats. The youth, comprising about 65% of India’s population have taken the responsibility to change the status quo.
Students have proved by rising to top managerial positions that if they can handle global companies, they can very well handle countries of the globe. It is high time they understood that politics is not ‘a dirty game’. There are only ‘dirty players’.

Bike review of Hero Honda Passion Pro
Passion Pro- The best bike in 100 cc segment
I purchased my first bike- Hero Honda Passion Pro bike after reading umpteen reviews in www.mouthshut.com. The reviews in this site are as real as the response from a fellow biker at a signal.
I purchased this bike from The Reliance Motor Co., Anna Salai, Chennai on 21st April, 2011. It cost me Rs 56,000 on road. As the difference between Passion and Splendor was just 7k, I chose the former. The dealer initially said that I will have to wait for a month to get the colour of my choice- Red. After a visual check of the sparking new bikes which had just arrived, he informed me that there was just one Red-colored bike. I got it delivered in 3 days with the registration no.
The moment of truth- I was handed over the bike keys. The joy of gliding over the tarmac with my new machismo was ineffable. In the subsequent days I checked the mileage. It gave 58 kmpl. As advised by my friends and elders I have been riding the bike at speed of not more than 50 kmph. Believe me the seats are much wider than that of Splendor. So those who are shortly gonna get married, do keep this in mind before deciding to buy a two-wheeler :)
Service part- Two months down the line I gave the bike for service. After that the self-starter hasn't been in that "one-touch start" condition. I have to race the throttle while pressing the electronic start button.
Look below the horizon- Enamoured by the looks I failed to notice the tyres underneath. It's my dad who examined the brand name. It was shockingly TVS. Having paid a hefty price one would surely expect MRF or suchlike.
Passion Pro is a must buy bike for 1st time buyers and college students. The smoothness of engine and the resulting ride quality are matchless.

Book review of Biz World
BIZ WORLD
-Ravi Handa and Avinash Maurya
Biz World is an excellent book for people who have a curiosity to know more about the companies they come across in their day-to-day life. Company Names explains the story behind the names of companies such as Parle, which was derived from the Mumbai suburb of Vile Parle. Brand Quotient is an eye-opener which gives the list of various products offered by each brand. Eg: Heinz has in its list Complan, Glucon-D, Heinz Ketchup, Nycil. Business terminologies demystifies the terms used by experts of Economy, Finance, Marketing, HR, etc. Company Names explains how the name of each company was derived. The quiz section is very recent and will surely enthrall the readers. All-in-all it is a good book for aspiring quizzers and college students. As Rajiv Makhni (Managing Editor of NDTV, Tech) rightly said, you need not be systematic when you read this book. You can start from anywhere.
Improvement in difficulty level is required in Abbreviations section. They are way too basic. A few of those are BPO, CEO, NSE, RBI, CII. Most of my engineering friends were able to answer these.
Ravi Handa has done a good job by publishing a book for which you would be willing to pay more than the cover price. His expertise in conducting quizzes at various colleges like the IITs, BITS, and XLRI is justified by the content of Biz World.

Let's change before we have to
June is that month of a year when summer camps come to an end and schools reopen. We have been all the way to moon and back to Earth but there has been little progress in reducing the onus of carrying super-size to mega-size bags by children. In spite of magic-carpet-rides in luxury cars and easily affordable public transport facilities, this burden has substantial effect on children’s energy level. However, it can be alleviated by actively participating in P.T. periods. Playing sports can help drive out laziness and bring in agility.
Mind- the power of which has no limit is seldom being utilized to its full capacity. We have unconsciously shifted our focus from real games such as Chess, Carom board, Badminton, etc, to unreal games such as Counter strike, Farmville, Ragnarok, etc, available on internet. Virtual games are primarily unproductive and may not help us much in the long run.
How can I be more pragmatic?
- Enrich your vocabulary:
Richer a person’s vocabulary, higher will be his rate of success in any field. Make it a point to learn one new word a day.
- Improve your calculation speed:
The ability to perform calculations at lightning fast speed can surprise your teachers and friends alike. Start off by trying to add numbers, of any vehicle’s number plate, mentally.
- Read extensively:
Develop an insatiable curiosity to read a variety of books, magazines, and newspapers. Over a period of time you would be better equipped to speak on a given topic anytime and almost anywhere.
Positive habits are, any day, far superior to negative ones. Don’t wait for a new year to take a resolution. The right time to change is now.
